Imagery Best Practices
Image Types and Sizes:
There are two primary sizes of images on the Chamber website.
- Content Image (Primary)
These images are represented both as the thumbnail on the Home Page, but also represent the bulk of the images found within content. - Slideshow Slides
These images are for more permanent content and should be used sparingly, as they are larger images and take more time to load for viewers and more storage on the website.
Compression and File Sizes:
Everyone loves rich, vibrant photography and stunning visuals, but few like waiting to see those visuals because the file size is so large that it takes time to finally show up, or it slows the loading of an entire page.
Please keep in mind the delicate balance of getting image sizes as small as possible, while still maintaining visual quality. For most cases, saving files as JPGs are the best choice, as the compression is well suited for both photography and many illustration types. For more simple line-style drawings and less complex illustrations, PNG files may be used, but keep in mind that they can get very large, very quickly on more complex media.
