Stay Independent: Spot, Stop and Report Fraud
To help protect local citizens from fraud, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Sioux County will host “Stay Independent: Spot, Stop and Report Fraud,” on Tuesday—October 27, 2026. The program will be offered in three sessions and attendees can choose the session time that works best for them. The sessions include: Morning 10-11 AM, Afternoon 3-4 PM, or Evening 5:30-6:30 PM at the Sioux County Extension Office,400 Central Ave. NW, Suite 700, Orange City, IA 51041.
Spot, Stop and Avoid Fraud is a part of the Stay Independent Health Aging series. The free workshop focuses on:
• Frauds and Scams – what they are, and which ones are common in Iowa.
• Why the older population is a target for frauds and scams.
• The warning signs of common frauds and scams
• Ways to protect yourself from fraud and scams.
The Stay Independent program is geared towards adults 60+ and/or their caregivers and focuses on identifying warning signs of common scams and reviewing ways to protect a person’s finances.
This program is offered at no cost to you thanks to the Sioux County Extension District. Register for a session by contacting the Sioux County Extension Office at 712-737-4230 on or before October 23, 2026.
Sioux County Master Gardener’s are hosting their 3rd annual Plant Sale
Sioux County Master Gardener’s are hosting their 3rd annual Plant Sale! Shop a variety of young plants ranging from flowers to garden vegetables with plenty of tomato varieties. Funds from the plant sale will go towards community gardening projects. Plant donations to contribute to the sale will also be accepted. Leftover plants will be donated to area social service organizations.
Trejo’s Catering and Food Truck will be at the sale serving lunch and supper!
4-H youth are invited to participate in a Horticulture Bucket Workshop from 5:00 – 6:30 p.m. Plant a bucket of flowers or vegetables for the fair! $15 per participant, learn more and register by April 23 at go.iastate.edu/4HPLANT.
Online Grant Writing 101 Workshop
Representatives of nonprofits, government agencies and school districts can learn the essentials of developing strong grant proposals during an online Grant Writing 101 workshop on April 1, from 9–11 a.m. The session is offered by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Community and Economic Development.
Grant Writing 101 provides foundational training for individuals who want to identify funding opportunities and prepare clear, competitive applications. The workshop reviews common grant terminology, how to locate funding sources and practical strategies for planning and writing a successful proposal.The session also covers how to outline project goals, gather supporting information, avoid frequent pitfalls and strengthen budget and narrative components.
The registration fee is $40 per participant, and advance enrollment is required.

Library staff will be hosting a trivia night, featuring some beloved classic book trivia, as well as other literary topics. Gather your book worm friends and family, and come prepared for an evening of fun on April 24 at 6:30 pm!
