Sioux County Master Gardener’s are hosting their 3rd annual Plant Sale

Sioux County Master Gardener’s are hosting their 3rd annual Plant Sale! Shop a variety of young plants ranging from flowers to garden vegetables with plenty of tomato varieties. Funds from the plant sale will go towards community gardening projects. Plant donations to contribute to the sale will also be accepted. Leftover plants will be donated to area social service organizations.

Trejo’s Catering and Food Truck will be at the sale serving lunch and supper!

4-H youth are invited to participate in a Horticulture Bucket Workshop from 5:00 – 6:30 p.m. Plant a bucket of flowers or vegetables for the fair! $15 per participant, learn more and register by April 23 at go.iastate.edu/4HPLANT.

Online Grant Writing 101 Workshop

Representatives of nonprofits, government agencies and school districts can learn the essentials of developing strong grant proposals during an online Grant Writing 101 workshop on April 1, from 9–11 a.m. The session is offered by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Community and Economic Development.

Grant Writing 101 provides foundational training for individuals who want to identify funding opportunities and prepare clear, competitive applications. The workshop reviews common grant terminology, how to locate funding sources and practical strategies for planning and writing a successful proposal.The session also covers how to outline project goals, gather supporting information, avoid frequent pitfalls and strengthen budget and narrative components.

The registration fee is $40 per participant, and advance enrollment is required.

Think you’re smarter than a librarian? Come prove it during National Library Week at an evening of trivia and riddles at Kweken Co.! Library staff will be hosting a trivia night, featuring some beloved classic book trivia, as well as other literary topics. Gather your book worm friends and family, and come prepared for an evening of fun on April 24 at 6:30 pm!

Choose Health NW Iowa Program at Orange City Area Hospital System

Community Health Partners, along with all Sioux County healthcare systems, are partnering to offer an 8-session weight loss and diabetes prevention program, “Choose Health NW Iowa,” with the goal of preventing diabetes in NW Iowa and promoting healthy and informed lifestyle choices. Classes will be on Thursdays from 5:15-6:30pm at Orange City Area Health System. Cost is $40 for individuals or $60/pair if you sign up with a partner. The dates for this program are February 19th and 26th, March 5,12,19,26 and April 9th and 23rd

This course, an 8-session weight loss and diabetes prevention class, is aimed at preventing diabetes in NW Iowa and promoting healthy and informed lifestyle choices. It is taught by nurses and dieticians from the four hospitals in Sioux County and Promise CHC. This program is available to anyone of any age who wants to improve their overall health.
